Keep youe pets healthy in the summer heat
Small animals like to sun themselves, but don’t let them overdo it otherwise you may end up with a poorly pet this summer. There are some standard tips that you can put in to action over the sunny season to keep your pet healthy and happy. Nick Thomas, Pet Expert at the Small Animal Advisory Service says:
Chill out Zone
When the rays start to hit re-position the hutch so that pets can enjoy a welcome break from the summer sunshine. Make sure they’ve got shade at hand to keep cool in the midday glare.
Just add water
To keep your pet feeling active through the summer make sure the water bottle is easy to get at for your rabbit or guinea pig and topped up with clean refreshing water. Tummy troubles Pets eat much more green grass in the summer after a winter stuck indoors. To stop tummy troubles make sure they get a balanced diet by feeding them a complete specialist small animal food with all the goodness they need to keep their stomach stable. Rough and tumble After playing in the garden small animals can get all sorts of soil, dust and foliage caught up in their fur. To make sure bugs don’t bother your pet, clean and groom them regularly, especially on hot days when pets may get sticky and uncomfortable. If your pet seems under the weather, make sure you take them to the vet for a check-up. The sooner an illness is detected the sooner they can be treated and be back on the mend.
